Before being called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2013, Billy was trained as a solicitor at Deacons from 2009 to 2011 and subsequently qualified in its Real Estate team. While at Deacons, Billy has gained exposure to the practices of commercial litigation, intellectual property, investment fund services and real estate project developments.
Since being called in 2013, Billy has developed a broad civil practice. Billy has worked on a variety of civil cases involving areas such as company, commercial, trust, tort, regulatory, professional disciplinary, real estate and building management matters, appearing in Courts of all levels. Clients advised and/or represented by Billy included a number of listed companies in Hong Kong and mainland China.
Besides, Billy has also acquired some remarkable experience in commercial crime. He was engaged as a junior counsel for the 5th Defendant in HCCC 98/2013, a 132-day trial against, inter alia, the former Chief Secretary Rafael Hui and co-chairmen of SHK Properties,Thomas Kwok and Raymond Kwok, for 8 criminal charges and developed competency in handling cases with voluminous documentary and live evidence. He was further retained for the subsequent appeals to the Court of Appeal and Court of Final Appeal.
Billy taught in the University of Hong Kong as a part-time lecturer on Evidence in 2016/2017 and on Land Law I & II in 2017/2018.
